PAX 2021 Dates

Hello PAX Universe,

We’d like to take this opportunity to announce our prospective show dates for the 2021 calendar, and before we do, we want to be completely clear about why we’re announcing them now, and how the global COVID-19 situation impacts our plans in the coming year.

We’re announcing our dates now to help partners plan for the upcoming year on how they might attend as well as provide a chance to start conversations about how to bring attendees, panelists, exhibitors, and our broader community together with these events that are 7 months away. Safety is always our highest priority, and we want to put these shows on for you and in a way that still feels like a PAX, but these things require runway. Our rationale: with things being this complicated, why not tell everyone all at once?

Let’s just say the quiet part out loud: if COVID-19 remains a major barrier to safely gathering at one of our shows, we won’t do it or we will take it virtual. As much as we miss, even crave, the togetherness and magic of a PAX, we will not put attendees, exhibitors, or our guests at risk for the sake of an event if things aren’t on the up and up.

Now, on to the good news! If things progress positively then there’s a good chance that we would be able to put on live events in the summer and later half of the year.

In that optimistic scenario our new event calendar for 2021 will be:

PAX East will take place June 3 - 6, 2021
PAX West will take place September 3 - 6, 2021
PAX Aus will have more info coming soon
PAX Unplugged will take place December 10 - 12, 2021

Unfortunately, because of what would have been the prospective timeline in early next year we won’t be able to put together a PAX South in 2021, but we look forward to bringing it back for you in 2022. We are also working with our team in Australia and the Australian government and will have more updates on PAX Aus’s 2021 show date in the next few weeks.

Expect badges, panel announcements, exhibitor updates, and the like to arrive in the new year, generally closer to the respective shows - and you can always follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for more regular updates.

Whatever form PAX East, West, and Unplugged take in 2021, please know that we are dedicated to bringing you all the community, content, and competition we’ve become known for, while continuing to create space for new, up-and-coming, and marginalized voices in gaming. “Welcome Home” isn’t just a slogan to us; we make our home every year in Boston, Seattle, Melbourne, San Antonio, and Philly - and it’s our job to make sure that we make that home safe.

Global PAX Online Experience Announced

In our previous communication, we explained that while we worked hard to bring you PAX Aus this year, we realised that due to the knock-on effect of COVID-19 we were no longer able to deliver PAX to the standard that our fans expect and deserve. The more we worked on a solution, the more it became clear that if we really wanted to welcome everybody home, we’d have to remove the physical barriers entirely, and simply take PAX Online.

Going digital means a lot more than just a change in venue though, and by transcending the physical, in fact, we’re able to do more PAX than ever before!

PAX Online is the result of the convention-organizing supergroup made up of the people responsible for PAX Australia, PAX West, as well as our new friends at EGX to create our new PAX Online and deliver a steady 24/7 stream of content, events, discussions, and gameplay.

Oh, and did we say 24/7 We actually meant 24/9, because we’re going to be running this virtual shindig for nine straight days, from September 12th through to the 20th.

We’re sure you have questions, and you should! We waited this long to announce so that we could offer these pre-emptive answers to how, exactly, we’re going to pull this off:

So when do badges go on sale?

They don’t! PAX Online will be free and open to the public. If you can access the internet, you can go to PAX Online.

But what about Panels?!

Going “online” generally means the addition of Streamed Content, and boy have we got that covered. Three channels’ worth, to be exact, with literally nonstop content running non-stop each and every day In addition to digital adaptations of the panels, concerts, and competitions that pack our theatres at a traditional PAX, we’ve got some new and exciting stuff as well as a few surprises planned, thanks to both our friends in Seattle as well as our EGX friends in London bring you even more special content.

Is Esports Content?

Yes, content means esports too! We’re hammering out a lot of the details that we can’t wait to announce, but for now we can say that PAX Online will be “hosting” “some” “tournaments” “throughout” the week.

Where’s the booth(s)?

Sending the expo hall to the Grid has been quite the tall order, but we’re reticulating splines, and uh, building data trees, on a project that will let you download and demo games from the comfort of your home! We want to replicate the thrill of the Expo hall as much as possible.

Oh no, what about Merch?!

Thought about this one a lot, and it turns out, we can just sell merch…on the internet. But seriously, if you were looking forward to kitting yourself out in PAX University gear for either Aus or West, we’re planning to have both shows’ collections available online all summer long in addition to a brand-new collection of exclusive PAX Online goodies. Some Early PAX West goodies are available for pre-sale right now and PAX Aus items will be available in the next few days!

What if I want to find and make friends?

There’ll be more details on this soon, but we’re prepared to offer a host of different ways to interact with the greater PAX community including custom chat rooms, tournament-aggregation systems, and the means to find groups to game with all week long!

So what’s next? Well, here are a few ways to keep up and get involved:

If you’d like to stay up-to-date on what’s happening with PAX Online, you can sign up for our mailing list direct from our homepage.

We’re looking for panels! If you’d like to host a panel for our stream check out our panel submission form here.

Indie Devs! If you would like to take part in our PAX Online Indie Showcase, we have information on how to get involved here.

Exhibitors, if you would like to discuss how to partner with us, you can follow up with that information with our sales team at

We’re so excited to share our new version of PAX with you. The last time PAX was a 24-hour show was…well, actually, it was the first one ever, almost 16 years ago! History doesn’t repeat itself, but it rhymes.

We’ve got our work cut out for us, but we’re hoping that while everyone’s living on the internet, we can maybe help it feel a little more like home.

Team Aus.

An Update on PAX Australia 2020

It is with a heavy heart that today we announce the postponement of PAX Australia 2020, due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 in Australia and globally.

Our thoughts are with our PAX community and everyone who helps us to deliver this incredible event each year. The aim since the beginning has always been to put on the best possible version of PAX Aus, provide a safe space for our community to gather, share our passion with each other and create new and lasting memories with those who matter to you most. We have been working hard with our partners and exhibitors to explore all viable options but with our desire to bring you the best PAX Aus ever, the next edition of PAX Aus will now take place in 2021.

While we can’t move forward with PAX Aus 2020 in the way we normally would, we are finding new and exciting ways to connect you and the PAX community with your favourite content and creators. Stay tuned to our social media channels in the coming days as we start to announce more information.

We want to thank you all for your ongoing support and understanding during this challenging time. While we can’t be physically together this year, we urge you to stay in touch with us, your community and each other.

Stay safe and be kind.
